Undershaw: More Than Just Another House

I recently found an article that tells what it really is that makes Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's (Writer of the Sherlock Holmes stories) former home, Undershaw, so very special. After reading this I am that much more devoted to doing what I can to help Save Undershaw.

They are calling now for groups to come together in front of a landmark and take a photo holding up a sign that says "Save Undershaw" and send it to them so that they may send it to the newspapers to raise awareness. It's that time of year! Spring is here and that means Spring Break for many schools, colleges, and Universities!
Many people go on vacation for Spring Break or take time to relax. When I go on vacation, one staple I always pack is a book because reading is one of the things I love to do as a relaxing pass time. Spring Pick 2012! The Help by Kathryn Stockett!

I am ready with the next Spring Pick 2012!! The Help by Kathryn Stockett.
Summary:
Aibilene and Minny are part of a group only known by one name: The Help. They are black housemaids who take care of EVERYTHING. The cooking, cleaning, and taking care of the kids. They are not always treated fairly or even nicely by their employers, but they won't say anything because they need the work. Especially in their small town. If you're fired because your boss is displeased, everyone will know and it will be hard to get another job. When you're bound to a job like that you are going to be privvy to plenty of injustice. What if someone gave you the chance to speak out? Would you take it? Or would you stay silent? When a young, white, female aspiring journalist comes along with the idea to publish a book on what the help goes through and how they feel about it, Aibilene, Minny, and all their friends must decide what their answers are to these questions. And their answers will forever change society in their town.
Review
I loved this book! I made sure to read it before I saw the movie version. I couldn't put it down. The characters are so colorful and the events move so quickly that you once you start, you won't want to stop.
I must say, the movie was just as wonderful as the book in my opinion! Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer were exactly what I pictured in my mind for Aibilene and Minny. Their performances were wonderful! I give the book 5 bookmarks! I would definitely suggest that you read The Help by Kathryn Stockett and then go and see the motion picture! You'll love them both for sure! :)

This one is a book I read some time ago. My friend came to me with it and expressed to me that she enjoyed it so much I HAD to read it. Since I generally trust her taste in books, I agreed and am so glad that I did!
Summary:
An older pastor is feeling like he hasn't got much left to offer. His jobs seem to be dead ends in ministry, his own child does not follow God, and his wife's health isn't good. Now he's starting a new ministry. How will his life change as a result? Only the Lord knows.
A young man has spent the better part of his life making one mistake after another. Once he ends up in prison on death row, he thinks all his chances are gone. But things are about to change...
These two men have never met, nor have they even heard of each other. It doesn't seem that either life means anything to the other....Until their paths cross in the most unexpected way...and the most unexpected things begin to happen. What results is one of the most amazing witnessing tool ever seen.
Review:
I willingly admit that this was actually the first book that made me cry openly after reading it! I have never had that reaction before! I will go ahead and state that this book is NOT for children as it does describe such things as drug abuse and some violence that is inappropriate for young people. But this is definitely a must read for adults! Men and women will thoroughly enjoy this book! :) I give it 5 bookmarks!

Grace in Thine Eyes-Liz Curtis Higgs *SPOILER ALERT!*
Hello Again Bookworms!
I'm back again to give you another review. This time its Grace in Thine Eyes by Liz Curtis Higgs! THIS REVIEW COULD BE A SPOILER!.....This is a continuance from the Lowlands of Scotland Series (Thorn in My Heart, Fairer is the Rose, and Whence Came a Prince) With the children of some of the former characters....when you read this, it may spoil a detail or two from Whence Came a Prince so please read carefully! :)
Summary:
This book follows Davina McKie, a small, sweet girl of seventeen and a very accomplished musician. Davina has one major thing that separates her from everyone else however....she cannot speak. This causes her family to be extremely protective of her, especially her twin brothers. Unfortunately, the brothers' protection goes a bit too far. When the twins are sent off to school, Davina's father makes arrangements for her to spend time with family far from Glentrool. When she arrives, she meets a mysterious stranger who reminds her an awful lot of somone she saw in a dream once....but will this meeting be the one Davina dreamed? or something else entirely?
Review:
I MUST give this book 5 bookmarks! I was so enthralled that it took me no time at all to finish this book! My eyes were glued to the pages! I couldn't help myself! There was one point that I got so mad at one of the characters I put the book away and didn't look at it again for a few days but when I finally did....WOW!! You really must read Grace in Thine Eyes by Liz Curtis Higgs. You'll love it so much you'll want to share it with others!

What is Undershaw?
Undershaw is the former home of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle the writer of the Sherlock Holmes books. This home is in danger of being torn down and turned into town houses in the UK! :(
How do I help?
If you are outside the UK you can go to The Undershaw Preservation Trust page on Facebook and Click "Like". They need more followers! Then recommend the page to as many people as possible.
If you are a British Citizen or Resident, please sing their e-petition! They need 100K signatures for consideration!

Fairer is the Rose by Liz Curtis Higgs

Sorry its been so very long! I cannot wait to tell you about this book: Fairer is the Rose by Liz Curtis Higgs!!
Summary *SPOILER ALERTS!!!*
Jamie still loves Rose, but thanks to more treachery and deception, Leah is his wife. Jamie struggles to overcome his intense anger and his lingering feelings for Rose, but is he really ready to give Rose up? If he does, can he learn to truly love Leah?
Meanhile, Rose struggles to forgive Leah for what has been done. She finally learned to love Jamie the way he loved her just to have him torn away from her. Will Rose learn to forgive such a egregious trepass against her by her own beloved sister? Will she let go of Jamie? Or will she turn to more drastic measures?
Leah is caught in the middle. Her sister loathes her, with good reason, and the husband of her dreams can barely even look at her. She knows what she has done was wrong. Her one moment of complete weakness and turned her family upside down. Will She ever gain Rose's forgiveness? Can she forgive herself? Will Jamie ever forgive her and learn to love her the way she so desperately loves him? But most of all...What does God think of her now?

Okay, I MUST start by giving this 5 bookmarks! It was a perfect sequel to Thorn in My Heart! The continuance of the story of Rachel and Leah from the Bible is so beautifully told by Mrs. Higgs that I literally laughed, cried, and rejoiced during the reading of this book! Leana's part in the story was truly my favorite as she fights to find forgiveness from Rose, Jamie, herself, and most of all God. Once you start reading, I garauntee you won't be able to put it down! :)
A NOTE:
As I review series' I'll have to put up spoiler alerts because in some areas I will have to reveal major plot events to be able to structure a sumary that makes sense. :) I encourage you not to read the summary of a second or third (or more) book in a series before having read the first book since I wouldn't want to spoil any of the events before you read them! :)
