House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker

Hello Bookworms!!
I have another book to tell you about! House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be giving it a very good review....

Summary:
A young couple are on their way to counseling. Unfortunately, they brake down. Soon, they come to a house that has been converted into a bed and breakfast of sorts. The keepers of this home are rather.....odd. They decide to stay in the house, however, since another couple is staying there too. What none of them expected was that their stay would turn into a nightmare...soon.
When a tin can with a frightening message written on it is thrown into the house by a terrifying, murderous madman, things become hostile fast. The man demands they play his game that has only 3 rules. Everyone must play this game, and the game ends at dawn...

Review:
Okay bookworms....I'm sad to report that I truly hated this book....what's worse? I watched the movie too. If you are a horror fiction fan, then this book is for you. What did this book teach me? That I am NOT a horror fiction fan!
There is one thing that I must say about this book: IT IS NOT FOR CHILDREN! I was probably seventeen or eighteen when I read this book and I couldn't sleep at night! It really is a freaky tale that was not meant for the faint hearted! Also, it does deal with a subject or two that is probably not appropriate for young minds.
After my experience with House by Frank Peretti and Ted Dekker, I must say: As a horror fiction, I would give it 5 bookmarks because it did its job! As a pleasure read, I give it 0 bookmarks because there was nothing pleasurable about the experience of reading this book!

The secrets of the Darcy family are about to be revealed, secrets that Fitzwilliam Darcy never expected. Even with the love and support of his dear Elizabeth, will this be more than Darcy can handle?  Find out in The Plight of the Darcy Brothers by Marsha Altman!

Review
I am very particular when it comes to continuances of classics. I am bothered when a person takes the characters that  you've come to love and changes them. Marsha Altman was able to take the characters of Jane Austen and add to their story in such a way that, while there was a new story and new things unfolding, they spoke, moved, and reacted exactly the way you feel Ms. Austen would've wanted them to! I am absolutely in LOVE with this book by Marsha Altman! I give it 5 bookmarks!  Once I started reading, I couldn't put it down and I'm sure you won't be able to either! It is definitely a must-read!

A Note:
This is the second book in the series. I would suggest that you start with the first book, The Darcy's and the Bingley's, before you read this book since it does spoil some of the surprises from the first book. This I found after I began reading the second book first and it was too late. :)

Here Burns My Candle- Liz Curtis Higgs

Hello Bookworms!!
I cannot wait to tell you about another book from one of my favorite authors!! Its called Here Burns My Candle by Liz Curtis Higgs!!

Summary:
Lady Elizabeth Kerr was not always a lady. She came from a small town in the highlands of Scotland, but she moved with her husband's family some time ago. She is still adjusting to life as a lady, which is hard when her mother-in-law and sister-in-law don't seem to like her very much, but with the love of her dear Donald she's sure she can make it. There is one thing that she doesn't know. Donald is not faithful to her. Oh, she's heard the whispers and noticed the odd behavior of certain young women but Donald has always been able to explain and she's sure the rest are lies...until now. When Donald goes off to war he promises her that he will be a different husband when he comes home. Can Elizabeth trust him to keep his word? Will he even come home? Can she stand to be alone with her mother-in-law and sister-in-law without Donald?
Lady Marjory Kerr is Elizabeth's mother-in-law. She doesn't approve of Elizabeth all that much and if she'd had her choice she probably would've chosen a wife for Donald much like Janet whom she chose for her younger son Andrew. But now the unthinkable has happened. Her sons have gone off to war....for the Jacobite cause....She has never supported any highlander cause.....until now. Will she continue to support the Jacobites and care for Elizabeth like she promised Donald? Will her gold be enough to save her sons from dying in battle? Has she signed all their death scentences if the Jacobites should lose the war?
So many questions and the only answer is to wait, pray, and trust.

Review:
I really loved this book!  At first, it took me a while to get into it, but when I did I almost couldn't put it down!! Liz Curtis Higgs takes the story of Ruth and retells it beautifully in the story of Elizabeth and the Kerr family. You will cheer for Elizabeth as she makes strides in becoming the strongest member of the family through it all. Each character in this book keeps you riveted to the page wondering how they will respond next. I definitely give it 5 bookmarks!! This is a must read! The sequel, Mine is the Night, is the next and last part of the tale and is already on store shelves. I gaurantee that you'll want it as much as I do when you read Here Burns My Candle by Liz Curtis Higgs!

Blast From the Past!! Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

Hello bookworms!
I am back and ready to give  you a brand new review of a book I read some time ago! Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen!!

Summary:
Elizabeth Bennett lives at Longbourne with her father, mother, and four sisters. She is strong-willed and opinionated for a girl her age. Neither she nor any of her sisters are married much to the dismay of her loving but constantly husband-hunting mother who wants nothing more than to see all five of her girls well married as soon as possible. When a small group of visitors, including two rich bachelors Mr. Bingley and Mr. Darcy, come to live in a home near them, Mrs. Bennett is as determined as ever to see that her girls have more than a fighting chance at being the object of one of the two bachelor's affections. When Mr. Bingley is quickly taken with the Bennett's eldest daughter Jane, Mrs. Bennett may just get her wish.
But just as it seems that all will be settled between Jane and Mr. Bingley, everything falls apart. Mr. Bingley suddenly leaves and it doesn't look as though things will continue with he and Jane from that point foward. While visiting her newly married friend Charolette, Elizabeth is reunited with none other than Mr. Darcy. During the course of the visit, Mr. Darcy's cousin tells Elizabeth that Mr. Darcy saved Mr. Bingley from a very unadvantageous marriage. Elizabeth is deeply angered by this grevious travesty against her sister on Mr. Darcy's part.
Elizabeth soon finds herself caught in a whirlwind of questions and emotions when Mr. Darcy proposes to her. Will Elizabeth accept him even though he has seemingly forever ruined her sister's chance for happiness? If she doesn't, where else will she turn once word gets out that she has turned down the most eligible and richest bachelor in the area? And what of Jane? Will she recover from Mr. Bingley's sudden departure? Do either of them really have any chance of being truly happy?

Review:
Though there are several movie versions of this book, no screenplay can compare to what Jane Austen wrote herself. Ms. Austen weaves a beautiful tale of family, friendship, and love that will keep you guessing until the very end. You will come to love the Bennett family as if they were your own family. I give it 5 bookmarks and suggest that this book make your list of books to read in your lifetime! It is one of the greatest love stories of all time! :)

Which movie version do I recommend?
Movie versions are always a matter of personal preference however, my personal favorite is the 2005 version with Kiera Knightly as Elizabeth Bennett and Matthew McFayden as Mr. Darcy.
